An 8 day extravaganza in Austrial Tirol & the truly memorable Almatrieb Festival

An 8 day extravaganza in Austrial Tirol & the truly memorable Almatrieb Festival.

A true taste of Austrian nostalgia and occasion. Originally a sort of 'thanksgiving' by the farmers to mark the cow's safe return, nowadays the 'Almabtrieb' is a time for villagers to come together in a celebration of local traditions including music, costume and delicacies. The parade or 'cow train' sees the brightly decorated cows returning from their Summer mountain pastures to shelters where they can escape the harsh Winter conditions. You’ll hear the sound of bells echoing in the valleys and see this typically Austrian celebration whilst based in either the Tirol or the Lakes region. Enjoy a whole week of end-of-summer festivities. Sample some of the best cuisine and drink that Tirol has to offer, enjoy music, hiking and the Almfestmarket.

Lake Constance is one of the largest lakes in Central Europe and bordered by Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Its shores are home to vineyards and intriguing towns rich in castles, churches, town squares and museums. Bregenz (Austria), located on the southern shoreline, is the oldest city on the lake with its own floating theatre. It is possible to take a cable car to the summit of the Pfänder for some splendid views. Continue to the picturesque island of Lindau (Germany), accessed only by a road and rail bridges. There is a beautiful harbour, cobbled streets with shops, restaurants and cafés. From here it would be possible to take a cruise to the nearby town of Friedrichshafen, home of the famous Zeppelin museum with a 33m model reconstruction of the Hindenberg.

A real spectacle of Austrian festivity and hospitality.
