Refreshments can be obtained at the Terrace Cafe or visit the Garden Centre shop. This afternoon we visit some of the typical Cotswolds villages including the incredibly pretty village of Broadway, this has been described as a typical English village with its hone coloured buildings clustered around the green, followed by Bourton on the Water, often referred to as 'Little Venice' and regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England.
Day Three
Our excursion today takes us to Cirencester the 'Capital of the Cotswolds' and the second largest town in England during Roman times. John the Baptist church dominates the market square and there is a fine Roman Museum worth visiting. This afternoon we will visit Sudeley Castle Gardens, owned by Lord & Lay Ashcombe, there are nine magnificent award winning gardens which sweep around the castle all with a unique style and design. From the Mulberry Garden with its country flowers and a Mulberry tree planted in 1865 to the Queens Garden named after the four queens who have walked there, including Katherine Parr who is also buried in the grounds of St Mary's Church.
Day Four
After breakfast we make our way eastward to Blenheim Palace, home of the Duke of Marlborough and the birthplace of Winston Churchill. The Palace is a unique example of English Baroque architecture; inside the scale of the Palace is beautifully balanced by the intricate details and delicacy of the carvings, the handpainted ceilings and the amazing porcelain collections, tapestries and paintings displayed in each room. We return to the hotel via Burford with its magnificent tree lined main streets.
