Day Two

After a leisurely breakfast we travel to nearby Beamish, a world famous open air museum, telling the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Take a ride on the Beamish Tramway, watch delicious bread, cakes & biscuits being made using traditional Edwardian recipes at Herron's Bakery and try the fish and chips, cooked in coal-fired ranges using beef dripping.

Day Three

This morning enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you will have the day at leisure to explore the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site of Durham. Embark on one of Durham's walking routes, enjoy a Prince Bishop River Cruise along the River Wear, explore Durham Cathedral set grandly on a rocky promontory next to the Castle with the medieval city huddled below.

Day Four

Today we travel via Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland to the Bowes Museum, this magnificent French Chateau created in the 19th century by John & Josephine Bowes, houses internationally renowned collections of European fine and decorative arts spanning five centuries. After our visit we continue to the market town of Barnard Castle for free time before returning to our hotel.

Day Five

A final leisurely breakfast this morning before beginning our journey home with refreshment stops enroute.
